Eat the Worm Already!

What a bunch of rowdies! At 4 a.m., it was like a production number from West Side Story non-stop. The dozens…hundreds…millions (seemed like) of overly cheerful birds were engaged in their own singing contest…dark skies and all.
In my stupor, I tolerated it for an hour. I was awake, but didn’t move. Somehow I fantasized that I could outlast them. Maybe they’d tire. Maybe the increasing light would calm them. Maybe they really had somewhere to go, some bug to hunt, some nest material to find.

They won and remained happy and calling for a couple more hours. I counted at least eight different songs. like each species had to make its statement.

I have to admit they live in the trees on three sides of this house. We’re visitors to the outside. I’m left resolving to tape a bit of their raucous concert.

P.S. That’s a free image and not mine. I’ll also resolve to take a few of my own of these showoffs.

We really should have a beer together the next time I am in Boston which *may* be as early as later this month.
